Caleb Hanson Obituary
Caleb Hanson
Caleb Andrew Hanson, 27, of Little Rock, formerly of Fort Smith, passed from this life Jan. 14, 2019, in Little Rock. He was born May 20, 1991, in Fort Smith to Carl and Paula Pledger Hanson.
As a child, Caleb was active in football, basketball and baseball, but found his passion in running. In grade school, he ran with the Fort Smith Track Club, coached by Gerry Matlock. Beginning in the eight grade, he was invited to run cross country for the Southside Rebels. As a sophomore, Caleb and his track teammates made it their goal to win a state championship. During his senior year, coached by Steve Peoples, that goal was accomplished, winning the 2009 title. Shortly after graduation, Caleb qualified for the Nike Outdoor National Meet, where he won first place and set a national record for the mile run. Caleb accepted a cross country and track scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he later graduated with a bachelor of science degree.
Caleb asked Jesus Christ into his heart at the age of 8 and was baptized at Murry Spur Free Will Baptist. He will always be remembered for his selfless, generous and passionate spirit. His family is assured by grace and faith, they will someday rejoice alongside Caleb in heaven.
He is survived by his parents, Carl and Paula Hanson; his sister, Olivia Hanson; his maternal grandmother, Pearlie Robertson; two aunts, Kathy Hanson and Debra Askins; as well as his cousins, Timothy, Raymond, Michelle, Joseph, Larissa and Matthew.
Caleb was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Martin Jr.; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Nell Hanson; and his uncle, Billy Ray Hanson.
Funeral service will 2 p.m. Tuesday at Life Church in Fort Smith. Burial will follow at Oak Cemetery.
The family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home. Service is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
