Thomas Lee Hancock
Tom Hancock (Dad and Papa) passed away on March 24, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. He was a native Floridian, born in Chipley, FL, to Henry W. and Lelar Hancock. He was a member of the Chipley High School band and was one of the school's first male cheerleaders. He later joined the United States Army serving in post war Germany as a member of the Army band. After concluding his military service, he became a Professional Engineer (PE), where over a 40 year career he worked in Richmond, VA and Tallahassee, FL. As a PE and land surveyor he worked for several engineering firms and the FL Department of Transportation (DOT). Tom designed many key infrastructure projects, such as the design of I-40 and I-64 through VA and NC and I-10 through the FL panhandle. Upon his retirement from the DOT, you could often find him on the golf course with his favorite foursome, walking, never riding, whittling in his wood shop, or cultivating his yard to perfection. He enjoyed many other passions, including gardening, fishing, history, cross word puzzles, wood working as well as music, especially march and bluegrass. He was always willing to share his time and talents with others and could often be found designing, building, renovating, and completing someone else's projects with craftsmanship and care.
He was preceded in death by his second wife Billie and his daughter Tommie Lynn. He is survived by his loving children: Keith Hancock (wife Kim) of Tallahassee, Gay Munyon (husband Paul) of Tallahassee, and Zedra Hawkins (husband Lon) of Chipley, FL and their mother, Louise Hancock; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Tom was a wonderful co-worker of mine when we both worked in the Estimates section at DOT.
Great sense of humor and a joy to work with.

Tom was the best supervisor I ever had for the short time I served him in the FDOT Inspector General's Office here in Tallahassee. He was not a politician but a man of facts and honor giving of himself to resolve any issues. He always laughed, was never negative and very supportive. I wish all managers were half as good as he was.
