Philip Stanley Cromartie
Philip S. Cromartie, 55, died March 18, 2014, at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee after a courageous battle with cancer.
Stan was born May 16, 1958, in Tallahassee, Florida. Stan was always proud to be a 5th Generation Leon Countian. He attended public schools in Leon County, and in the 8th grade attended Florida High School where he graduated in 1976.
Stan was a veteran of the US Navy, serving his country proudly from 1976 until1981. He loved to golf, hunt, fish, and enjoyed the woods like his Creek ancestors. He just loved life.
He had made his home in Cairo, GA, since 1999 and was the owner of Syrup City Pools. The Cairo Country Club was his "second home" with many dear and supportive friends.
Stan is predeceased by his parents, W.G. and Jerry Cromartie. He is survived by his son, Philip S. Cromartie, II (Elizabeth), two grandsons, Kade and Kole, of Houston, Texas; brother W.G. "Bill" Cromartie, II (Patty), and niece, Crystal Cromartie, of Tallahassee; two first cousins, Robert S. Davis and John H. Davis of Blountstown, Florida. Stan leaves behind countless friends in Tallahassee and Cairo, and other areas of southwest Georgia.
The family would like to acknowledge the very special care Stan received in his last days from Big Bend Hospice House and the BBH Care team. Thank you all. The family also would like to recognize Vince Wise for the many years of friendship and care, and also Rod and Barbara Moeller for their life long friendship.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
Services will take place on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 3:00pm, Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel. The family will receive friends at the home of Bill and Patty Cromartie, 7874 Reynolds Court, Tallahassee, on Thursday, March 20 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
