Barry Bullard Obituary

Barry Bullard

Barry Bullard transitioned this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Tallahassee, FL. He grew up on Pickering Street in Whittier, CA, graduating from Whittier High in June 1963. He traveled throughout the United States with his very good friends. He was then accepted into Seaman's School in Manhatten, NY, working with the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam era and beyond. His goal was to travel much of the world and he much preferred the warm routes in the Caribbean. Barry earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from National University, San Diego, CA in 1990; his Master's in Computer Education from Alliant International University, San Diego, CA in 1992; and his Doctorate in Communications from Miramar University, San Diego, CA in 1994. After moving to Florida from Oceanside, CA in 1992, Barry took part of a painting class at Tallahassee Community College and taught himself to oil paint and sculpt. He gave most of his creations to students, fellow teachers and former Whittier High classmates. He donated many works to the American Cancer Society, among many others, and his favorite, Big Bend Cares, where he was honored with the People's Choice Award at their 2008 Artopia "Top Hats and Tails" auction.

Barry had been a professor with Keiser University since 1995, starting at the Tallahassee campus, then teaching with Keiser's E-Campus Program in 2008 until the present, with their main campus in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Left to treasure his legacy and love are: his wife, Debbie Bullard of Tallahassee and his sister, Sherrilynn M. Costelow and family, currently of Oregon. Barry was predeceased by his mother, Erin Lydon of New York and father, Wilmer Bullard of Texas. Donations made be made in Barry's memory to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Condolences from your cousin, Rich Bullard. Had no idea this had happened until my wife was searching for family on the internet. She does a lot of family history and was trying to find family that I have lost contact with. Sure would have liked to have caught up with you before this. Love, Rich

I had just been thinking of Barry, and intended to get in touch--my heartfelt sympathies. Barry was a great fellow and a talented artist; several of his paintings hang in our home, and we treasure them.
