Mr. Earl Newton Hightower

Earl Newton Hightower, 86, of Tallahassee, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Tallahassee. He was preceded in death in February 2013 by his wife, Agnes Slappey Hightower.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12 o'clock noon, Wednesday, April 30th at Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee (850/385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com). The funeral service will follow at 12 o'clock noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM, CDT at New Hope Methodist Cemetery, near Vernon.

Those who wish may make a gift in Mr. Hightower's memory to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Mr. Hightower was a native of Vernon, and moved to Tallahassee in 1948, following World War II to attend Florida State University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hightower was retired from the construction industry, and also active in real estate investment.

Survivors include his brother, Carl Hightower of Tallahassee; his sister, Margaret Carter of Graceville; and several nieces and nephews.
