Edward Arthur Myers
Edward Arthur Myers, 93, of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Orrville, OH, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Tallahassee, FL while he slept. Mr. Myers was born November 4, 1919 in Orrville, OH to John and Jennie (Scott) Myers. Mr. Myers was married to Beverly Maag of Orrville, OH in 1947. Mr. Myers attended Ohio State University
, where he was a drummer in the R.O.T.C. Marching Band. As a member of "The Greatest Generation," Mr. Myers left college to serve as a First Lieutenant in the US Army serving in the 5th Army 178th Field Artillery Battalion. The 178th was a National Guard unit from Abbeville, SC, which saw service in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy during WWII
with the unit establishing a record of 249 consecutive days in the line without relief. During his years of service he earned 6 battle stars (Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, N. Appenines, Po Valley) and a Bronze Star
. Mr. Myers remained lifelong friends with the boys from Abbeville, SC, and with his passing, only one comrade remains. After his service, Mr. Myers returned to Orrville where he was a business partner in the Furniture Annex. The Myers family relocated from Ohio to Fort Myers, FL in 1967 where Mr. and Mrs. Myers owned a custom bedspread and drapery shop. He resided in Fort Myers until his move to Tallahassee in 2011.
He was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as a Deacon, Ruling Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He believed and lived Philippians 4: 11-13. He was beloved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Myers is survived by his younger brother, John J. Myers of Medina, OH, three children; daughter Barbara Boss (Cordell) of Chappell, NE, daughter Diane Kessler (John) of Tallahassee, FL, and son Dennis Myers (Gunnhild) of Fort Myers; ten grandchildren: Cheryl Boss, Todd Boss, Matt Boss, Kyle Boss, Erin Boss Dudden (Chris); Kimberly Kessler Mallory (Kevin), Scott Kessler (Catherine); Amanda Myers Baker ( Mark), Daniel Myers, Erik Myers; and eight great-grandchildren: Makenna, Madison and Trevor Boss (Todd), Quentin and Liam Mallory (Kimberly), Cooper Dudden (Erin), and Amelia and Florence Baker (Amanda). Mr. Myers is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Beverly (1997); son, Arthur Scott (1958); and sister Verla Myers McElwain (2002).
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Orrville, OH May 31st at 2 PM, followed by interment in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Officiating will be family friend, the Reverend Keith Leach of First Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, OH.
