Eva Baruch Gardner
Eva Baruch Gardner, age 92, entered into rest on June 28, 2014 at the Margaret Dozier Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Emmy Baruch. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert F. Gardner; her sister, Liselotte; stepmother, Lizzy Baruch; stepsister, Gerda Linton and her dear friend, George McKissock.
Eva was born in Hamburg, Germany. Her family moved to London in 1933 to escape the growing Nazi regime. With World War II raging in Europe, Eva served England in the British Women's Auxiliary Air Force for 5 ½ years. After the war, following a visit with relatives in the USA, Eva decided to move to New York to pursue her career where she met her future husband. They married and established their home in Quincy, FL from 1950 until 1974 when they moved to Tallahassee.
Eva's community involvement included the American Red Cross and serving as a Brownie Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was an avid bridge player with her Quincy bridge club for over 40 years. At the age of 85, she retired after a 25 year career at the Florida League of Cities. She was also a member of Temple Israel. Eva loved to travel, attending theater and symphony, and was an excellent cook. She was a kind, genteel lady with a radiant smile who was loved by many. Eva lived life to the fullest and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with a passion for her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Eva Gardner Green and husband Rogers; two sons, Stephen Robert Gardner and wife Judy, all of Tallahassee; Kenneth Baruch Gardner of Orlando; two grandchildren, whom she called the loves of her life, Jennifer Lauren Green and Thomas Robert Green. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Temple Israel. A reception will follow at Capital City Country Club. A private family graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery.
