Dr. Howard Gene Armstrong, M.D.
Dr. Howard Gene Armstrong, M.D., 87, a retired Family Physician in Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on November 3, 2012, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
He was born on October 24, 1925 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Wesley "Earl" and Berniece Armstrong. Howard moved to Tallahassee from Newark, Delaware in August 1970, with his wife and children where he joined the existing practice of the late Dr. Joseph Henry and the late Dr. Robert Johnson. Howard retired in1991 but returned to work at Florida State University from 1992 to 1994.
Howard had a love and passion for playing the game of golf, as well as watching all sports on television, gardening, traveling, reading, and history. He undoubtedly enjoyed spending the summer months in the mountains of North Carolina and quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
He is survived by his college sweetheart and loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis Stone Armstrong, daughter Cheryl Armstrong of Tallahassee, son Marty Armstrong and wife Leslie of Clearwater, grandchildren Shelley Carico of Tallahassee, Travis Armstrong of Colorado, Victoria Armstrong of Oldsmar, and great-grandchildren Chason Small of Tallahassee and Gabriella Webb of Oldsmar.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012, in the Chapel of Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida, with a private interment to follow for the family. Dr. Charlie Williams will officiate. Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com
