Jack Carrouth

Stewart Jack Carrouth, 87, died peacefully on July 16, 2013, at the Margaret Dozier Hospice House at Big Bend Hospice, with his wife Mary and family surrounding him. Jack and Mary celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2013.

Jack was born in Tallahassee on March 29, 1926. He attended Leon High School before enlisting in the Navy in 1943 at age 17. During World War II he served on the USS Philadelphia. He continued his military service in the Army during the Korean War and remained active in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank as Colonel, in 1986.

Jack received his law degree from the University of Tennessee and practiced law in Tallahassee and North Florida for thirty-five years. He was an active member of the Jackson Lodge #1, F&AM; was a life member of the Tallahassee VFW Post 3308; a member of the American Legion; the Marzuq Shrine of Tallahassee; and was a long time member of the Tallahassee Optimist Club.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Mary; his children Jackie Carrouth Wilson, Bobby and Elizabeth Carrouth, Beverly Carrouth Edge, Harvey Carrouth, and Sharon Carrouth; his Grandchildren Nicole Edge Shultz, Matt Edge, Robby Wilson, Mary Kathryn Carrouth, Amanda Carrouth, Stephen Lawson, Valerie Edge; and his great grandson Aldyn Shultz.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Friday evening 6-8pm and the Burial, with military honors and Masonic rites will take place at Oakland Cemetery on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2pm.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612, or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
