Jack Lawrence, 91, a resident of St. Cloud, formerly of Tallahassee, passed away June 3, 2014.
A son of the late Benjamin and Lyda Towe Lawrence, he was born April 7, 1923 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the US Army, having honorably and faithfully served during World War II
. His duties were as a bomb disposal expert to running the Red Ball Express. He was a Southern Baptist, and previously been a Deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Morristown, Tennessee.
Mr. Lawrence was an energetic man. He retired from BASF in 1985 and then worked for Scotty's Hardware for another 17 years. His knowledge of anything mechanical served him well through life, helping many a fellow man all the way from tiling a floor, to repairing an engine to surveying property for his church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Penland Lawrence, and his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Melinda Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
The funeral is 2:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2014 at Abbey Funeral Home, with interment following in Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the USO.
