Laurence L. "Larry" Benson

Laurence L. "Larry" Benson, 82 passed away on December 6th after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born in Enid, OK on December 19, 1929. He served in the United States Air Force and was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Journalism and Florida State University with a Master's degree in Higher Education. He moved to Miami in 1960 and worked for the Junior Chamber International. In 1964, he moved to Tallahassee and worked for the Secretary of State and Tallahassee Community College, where he was Financial Aid Director and Registrar. Larry traveled extensively and spoke fluent Italian and Spanish. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Tallahassee Stamp and Cover Club, Big Bend Model Railroad Assoc., Panhandle Archeological Society, Tallahassee Region - Antique Car Club and the Historical Society. He became a published author at the age of 80.

Larry is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley; two daughters Kerri Mohar (Rob) of Tallahassee and Gwen "Gigi" Kady (John) of Panama City; granddaughters: Emily, Allison and Amy Murray and Jordan and Julia Kady.

A Memorial Service is planned at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 8th at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Trinity UMC or Big Bend
