Lillian Mitchell Adams A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Lillian Mitchell Adams, longtime Tallahassee resident, will be Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at East View Cemetery in Union City, Tenn., under the direction of White-Ransom Funeral Home, Union City. Local arrangements are by Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191). Mrs. Adams died Aug. 27, 2008, in Monticello, Fla., at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kendrick Adams in 1991, and her son, Robert K. Adams, Jr., in 1962. Born June 7, 1911, in Union City in west Tennessee, Mrs. Adams was the daughter of John Calhoun Mitchell and Martha Scott Mitchell. She attended the local schools and Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Mo. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Adams lived for many years in Webster Groves, Mo., (St. Louis), while he was an executive with Phillips Petroleum Company. On his retirement, they toured the southern states to select a place to build their retirement home. They arrived in Tallahassee during dogwood season and never left. They resided on Westford Drive in Killearn Estates for more than 35 years. In addition to her son and husband, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Syble L. Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn.; two nephews, Mark F. Mitchell of Sugar Land, Texas, and John Scott Mitchell of Washington, D.C.; and the following nieces; Martha Alexander Laslie of Cocoa, Fla., Rebecca M. Taylor of Marietta, Ga., Kathryn Mitchell and Jenée Felty of Nashville, Elizabeth Mitchell Day of Salem, S.C., and Stephane Mitchell of Geneva, Switzerland. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Nancy Hubener of Tallahassee.
