Lt. Col. Donald Leslie Wilkins (Ret.)
Lt. Col. Donald Leslie Wilkins (Ret.) lost his 16-year battle with prostate cancer December 3, 2012. He was the son of Leslie and Naomi Wilkins from Pensacola born August 1, 1941. Don graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School and earned an Accounting degree from St. Bernard College where he played collegiate baseball. Upon graduation, Don enlisted in the US Air Force
where he served his country for 20 years. While in the service, he attained an MBA from the University of Missouri. After retiring from the service, Don went to work for the Florida Department of Education and then the Florida Department of Transportation, Toll Operations in Tallahassee, where he held the position of Purchasing and Contracts Manager, retiring 2003. Don is survived by his wife Paula Kalinosky Wilkins, daughters Vicki (Ron) Webster with granddaughter Laura Preston of McCloud, California, and Stephanie (Mack) Williams with grandson Seth (Ashley) Rasmussen of Tampa, Florida, his brothers Ronnie (Suzanne) Wilkins of Port Charlotte, Florida and Gary (Marcia) Wilkins of Palm Island, Florida, nieces Molly (Kevin) Carey and Carly Wilkins, and his devoted mother-in-law Dorothea Kalinosky.
Don was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. For those who knew Don, you will remember his love of life, baseball hats, golf, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, and all FSU sports! Special thanks to his doctor, nurses and staff at Florida Cancer Specialists, the staff at Radiology Associates, and Big Bend Hospice.
In keeping with his wishes, the family plans a Celebration of Don's Life in mid-January (details forthcoming). Don will be buried at the Naval Air Station National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Big Bend Hospice or your favorite cancer research institute.
