MILDRED LEA McCLANAHAN WELCH WEBB
Mildred Webb, age 94 passed away peacefully at the Westminster Oaks Health Center, Tallahassee, Florida on April 26, 2014. "Millie", also affectionately called "Mickey", was born in Boyd, Kentucky on October 9, 1919. She was one of 11 children and the last surviving family member of her generation. During WWII she was employed by Wright Aeronautical in Cincinnati, Ohio where she supported the war effort. Later she was employed by the TraveLodge Corporation. Millie had two sons, Jimmie McClanahan and Bill Ed McClanahan, who preceded her in death. In December of 1965 she married William R. Webb of Cincinnati and they soon retired, moving first to Naples, Florida; then to Brooksville, Florida with a summer home in North Carolina. During their retirement years they enjoyed traveling in their Airstream mobile home throughout North America, Mexico and Canada. Millie was an avid bowler and golfer, having won several trophies in the process. Major triumphs were making two holes in one on the golf course. She enjoyed retirement life, cooking, exercise and spending time with her late husband who passed away in 1996. Throughout the challenges of Alzheimer's in her declining years, Millie was a model of good spirit and positive outlook. Her best line.... "I can't remember the past, but I am glad to be here, and look forward to the future."
Millie is survived by many relatives, including her beloved grandson Matt McClanahan and Linda Schwartz, the daughter of her most recently deceased brother Bill. Millie also left behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and step-great great grandchildren.
In her declining years Millie moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she was cared for by her husband's son Bill Webb and wife Montserrat, assisted by the younger brother Bob Webb and wife Joanne. It was a labor of love which was reciprocated.
Arrangements are by Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home with private family services at a later time.
