Regina Poppell "Reg" Brewster(1954 - 2013)

Regina "Reg" Poppell Brewster

Regina "Reg" Poppell Brewster, 59, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 14, 2013, after her nearly three year battle with breast cancer.

She was born July 4, 1954, in Tallahassee, Florida and was the Salutatorian of Godby High School in 1972. A true Seminole, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She was one of the elite few to pass the Certified Public Accountant's exam on the first sitting, and enjoyed a 37-year career as a CPA with Williams Cox Weidner & Cox (later merged with Carr Riggs & Ingram) - establishing herself as a success at a time when the accounting field was predominately male. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta, Beta Alpha Psi, AICPA, FICPA and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

An unexpected benefit of her employment with Williams Cox Weidner & Cox was meeting a coworker, James R. "Jim" Brewster. Jim and Regina were married in 1983 and were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Danielle and Melanie. Regina was a loving, involved mother and friend to her daughters. She spent many hours volunteering at their schools, Holy Comforter Episcopal School and Maclay School, and was a constant supporter at their many volleyball, basketball and softball games. She was honored to throw the first pitch at three Maclay School breast cancer fundraising softball games.

She loved the beach and enjoyed the annual family retreat in St. Augustine along with other beach destination vacations in Navarre Beach and Hawaii. She was a superb athlete, had a keen interest in photography and a love for music.

A lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, she and Jim were active in the Interaction One Sunday School class, whose members provided countless meals and ongoing support throughout Regina's illness.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM EDT Thursday, July 18, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 108 W College Avenue in Tallahassee. There will be a private burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida.

Regina is survived by her husband of 30 years, Jim; two daughters, Danielle (fiancé Brett Kirkland) and Melanie of Tallahassee; two brothers, Ron Poppell (wife Wanda) of Havana and Tim Poppell (wife Maggie and daughter Kelly) of Longwood; two brothers-in-law, Tom Brewster (Pamela Sue) and Bill Brewster of Pensacola; her uncle Bully Poppell (Jewel) and aunts Lucile Maxwell and Johnnie Ward, all of Havana; aunts Betty Jo Lester (Charles) and Eleanor Puckett of Tallahassee, Erline Spooner of Quincy, and Carolyn Barnhill (Grady) of Winston-Salem, NC.
