Virgil Clayton Smith
Virgil Clayton Smith, 85, a resident of Tallahassee, passed away July 31, 2013.
A son of the late John Ward and Nemmie Dale Parrott Smith, he was born December 16, 1927, in Blackshear, Georgia. He served in the US Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. During his time in service, he was a Senior Firefighter
and involved with Crash Rescue. He worked in the poultry business in DeFuniak Springs, and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, football and baseball games and feeding the birds.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eddie Raleigh "Tootsie" Smith; sons, Michael W. Smith (Cheryl) and John Ward Smith; daughters, Cheryl Diane Dunlap (Larry), Janet A. Martin (David) and Nina Sue Smith; grandchildren, Brandice R. Adams and Amber Renee Smith; several nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral is 11:00 AM Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Abbey Funeral Home, with interment following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday at Abbey Funeral Home.
