Joyce added so much to our lives at the FSU Chi Omega House!

That kind sweet soul held our hands, encouraged us, nurtured us, and made sure we were fed well. She stirred our hearts, as well as our meals.

Joyce was a ray of sunshine each day! None of us will ever forget the nicknames she gave to each and every one of us. And most certainly - how that gal could cook! She was gifted and outstanding in every way!

She leaves a tremendous imprint on our hearts. And she will never be forgotten! God has another good one beside him today!

Sending prayers for your family,
on behalf of all of the Gamma Sisters,
Chi Omega 1970s. ---And all the generations she served!

I have much sadness knowing Miss Joyce has left our world. I had the pleasure of getting to know her through out my 4 years at the ADPi house in the mid 90s. She was a mother and friend to HUNDREDS of young women who carry on her stories, insight, and charm along in their own journey of life. She will forever be remembered and loved. Pi Love, Miss Joyce!

The Chi Omega house was blessed to have Miss Joyce in charge of our kitchen in the 70's. The food she served was delicious but so was her infectious smile and laugh, her kindness and her interest in us and our lives! I have fond memories of her, she was a treasure! My deepest sympathy for your loss, may she light up heaven as she did our house.

So very sad to learn this news today. Miss Joyce was a beautiful person with a kind and funny spirit who took care of all of us ADPi's. She was always there to sneak us some food when we were hungry and always had tender (and funny!) words of wisdom when we needed it. When I graduated in 1995 and took my mom to meet her, Miss Joyce thanked my mom for lending me to her for four years. It made me cry. May her family be comforted by the many, many girls who loved her.

Sweet Miss Joyce - Food was her loving ministry, and she impacted countless lives through it. She was family and counselor to so many girls during a pivotal transition into womanhood. Her example for leading a happy and joyous life was imparted upon each of us. She nurtured us both physically and mentally. Thank you for the love you provided to each of us.

I was a Chi O at FSU from 1979 - 1984 and spent MANY hours in the kitchen visiting with Joyce and Jean . . . and many times she surprised me with breakfast in bed (don't tell!). I loved Joyce dearly (we ALL did) and she will always be one of my fondest memories from my college years. My condolences to you all. Joyce was very special.

Joyce was the best!!! She spoiled me and my roommate. I always had 8:00 classes. Joyce would make sure I was awake and she cooked me and my roomie cheese omelets every single day. I loved staying in the kitchen with her Pat. I would eat in the back so I could enjoy her company when I didn't feel like getting dressed for dinner. I have thought of Joyce often since my days at the Chi-O house. She was absolutely the best cook in the world and she always had great advice. I loved her so much and started missing her the minute I graduated.

Miss Joyce made my time at ADPi so comforting. She always had a smile and a funny story to share! She was an excellent cook but her true talents were sharing her love with all the homesick young woman that walked through the doors of the ADPi house. She made that house a home! I am so thankful to have met her and she'll always hold a special place in my heart.

She worked tirelessly for us at the ADPi house making us smile with kind words and our favorite foods. We were tremendously blessed to have her and owe (dare I say) passing some finals thanks to full bellies and surviving recruitment thanks to hot peppermint honey tea. My condolences to her family. I'm so saddened to hear of Ms. Joyce's passing. She was such a special part of our Alpha Delta Pi family. She was always there to offer a smile, a hug or a listening ear. I remember one morning when I had been up all night studying she came out to the dining room with a plate of cookies and told me to take a break--that everything was going to be ok. I am so sorry to hear this news. I was a member of the Iota/FSU chapter of Alpha Delta Pi where "Mrs. Joyce" (as we all called her) was a cook. She was extremely talented at what she did, but more importantly, she was a wonderful person. At a time when many of us were living away from our families for the first time, It was so comforting to have Mrs. Joyce's kind, nurturing presence around. I have many memories of her big smile and "Hey Honey!" echoing from the kitchen. She had a great sense of humor and *might* have even helped a few of us sneak boys in and out of the house;) She was beloved by the chapter and will be sorely missed. Praying for strength, peace and comfort for her family during this time.Love,Lauren Chambers Iota ADPi, AC '02

My dear sweet Miss Joyce,

You were the highlight and sunshine of my mornings in college. You were more than a cook to myself and many other Alpha Delta Pi sisters. You were a friend, a "momma" away from home, a shining light, and a beautiful person all around. I always looked forward to your sweet hugs and laughs. Thank you for making my college experience better by your presence. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Love you always,

I was a server at ADPi at FSU for three years in the 90's and some of the best talks I had were with Ms. Joyce in the kitchen. She was the probably the sweetest person I have ever known and had a heart of gold. She would give you the shirt off her back or the keys to her car if she thought you were in need. The world is a little less today and we can only hope some of her magic was passed on to others. I only knew her for a few years and lost touch but hearing of this news I feel a little bit of my heart is gone. I just hope one day someone types words like this about my life because that would make her smile from heaven.

Melissa Vass

April 21, 2016

Ms. Joyce was the brightest light in the ADPi house kitchen. I was an ADPi at FSU, lived in the house, and luckily got to know Ms. Joyce (like so many other girls). She was the most selfless woman in that house. She truly took care of all of us like she was our mother. From preparing meals, remembering our favorite snacks, talking to us about boyfriends, asking what we were studying, to simply asking how we were doing. She was amazing & always remembered EVERYTHINF. She will always hold a special place in my heart. xo

Miss Joyce touched so many lives at Alpha Delta Pi at FSU. She was such a wonderful woman. I recall one time she made a whole batch of her sweet potato casserole just for me and hid it in her secret spot for me to find it. She will surely be missed!
