Helen Menendez Obituary
Helen Johnson Menendez, 97, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in Tallahassee.
Born November 5, 1913, at the family home in Bradfordville, Florida, she was the daughter of Daniel R. and Sue Helen Young Johnson. She was the last surviving student that attended the one room school house in Bradfordville. Later she graduated from Leon High School and attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. Helen lived all of her years in the Tallahassee area except for 5 years in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ernest M. Menendez and by her brothers, Dan, Ralph and Jessie Johnson and her 2 sisters, Julia Sutton and Kate Johnson.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Martha Sue Jones, Ernest M. Menendez, Jr, Richard E. Menendez (Judy Menendez) and Mary Margaret Gray(Phil Gray), 10 grand children, 14 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild, 5 nieces and 3 nephews. In addition to family members and relatives, Helen enjoyed countless close relationships with numerous friends, neighbors and especially her Sunday school classmates.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Killearn United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home on Timberlane Road from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at Killearn United Methodist Church starting at 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations and/or gifts be made to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Florida 32308. On-line condolences may be made at www.culleysmeadowwood.com.

To the family of Helen Menendez,
I've always had the greatest admiration for Helen and her husband while they were members of Trinity United Methodist Church. They were staunch and faithful members and lived a life that exemplifies a Christian. She will be missed greatly.

So sorry to learn of the death of Helen who was one of the most gracious ladies that I know. Our sympathy and prayers to all the family. I am the middle daughter of Sterling Harrison, Sr. who worked at the telephone company 41 years alongside of your dad, "E", as he was lovingly called. Your folks were my parents greatest friends and I know you all will have wonderful memories as I do of my parents. God's strength and blessings for you in the days and months ahead.
