Elsie Lane Obituary

Elsie Hardin Lane

Elsie Hardin Lane, 92, passed peacefully into her heavenly home, July 24, 2011, at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, Georgia.

Elsie was born to Robert Ellis Hardin, Sr. and Ella Louise (Eloise) Younger and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was an alumnus of Tuscaloosa High School, University of Alabama, and also a University of Alabama at Birmingham nursing scholarship student. Elsie volunteered countless hours as a Pink Lady at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and in the clinic at Leon High School. She was an active founding and charter member of Calvary United Methodist Church and held many positions including volunteer church secretary. She had a beautiful voice and sang soprano in the choir which also performed cantatas in collaboration with the FSU music department. She was the first volunteer PTA coordinator for the Country Store at the Tallahassee Museum. Elsie worked 18 years for the State of Florida: Licensing and Registration, Marine Patrol, and Natural Resources. She moved to Jekyll Island, Ga., in 2009 to live with her daughter and joined the Jekyll Island United Methodist Church where she quickly made dear friends to whom she was a wonderful Christian witness and inspiration. Prior to leaving Tallahassee, she lived at Georgia Belle Apartments where she attended church services, Bible study and prayer groups. During this time, she was a much loved member of her son's church, Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church.

Dear Bobby, Randy, Dorothy, and all the family,
There was no one I have ever known like Elsie, she didn't have a prejudge bone in her body, she loved, laughed and looked for the good in all. She was a precious woman, and I am so thankful I knew her. Love and class is how I would describe your mama. Such a gem.
Looking forward to seeing her again,
Jackie Whitman

I had the honor of working with Elsie at the Florida Department of Natural Resources - Bureau of Licensing and Marine Patrol. She was one of the nicest ladies I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. She always had a smile and nice word for everyone. She was very special and will be missed.

Elsie was a very special lady. It was my privilege to be a Challengers classmate of hers. She was a true Christian and a shining example. Those who knew her are truly blessed.
