Barbara Nettles Obituary

Barbara Randall Nettles

Barbara Randall Nettles of Tallahassee, Florida, passed August 29, 2015, at home with her family by her side.

Barbara was born February 28, 1941, in St Augustine, Florida, to Giles "Randy" G. and Irene Day Randall. She loved deep sea fishing with her Father and other water sports. She worked summers in St. Augustine as a Red Cross Certified Life Guard for Florida Death & Blind School. She attended Ketterlinus High School, where she was a cheerleader and played on the girls' basketball teams and graduated in 1959.

She came to Tallahassee, Florida in 1959 to attend Florida State University. While attending FSU, she met Stanley R. Nettles and they married in 1961.

Barbara first worked part time for the Attorney General's Office in Statutory Revisions' Section and later full time. She was partnered with attorney Charles "Tom" Henderson to organize the Florida Association of Court Clerks in 1968. A local attorney stated at her retirement dinner in 2007, "Barbara was the best at herding the 67 cats of the association (Florida Court Clerks)".

Barbara was an active member of the Tallahassee BPOE 937 Elkettes and was elected as president and also elected as president of Altrusa Club. She was also an active member of Orange Blossom Circle of the Tallahassee Garden Club. She often worked tirelessly at group fundraising activities for a variety of charities including The Fla. Elks Harry-Anna Crippled Children's Hospital and Altrusa Scholarship House. Barbara enjoyed cooking, painting, reading and college sports, most especially FSU football, baseball and basketball.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stanley R. Nettles; daughter Marsha Studdard (Tracy Studdard); daughter, Cassandra Nettles; granddaughters Heather and Nicole Studdard; great-grandchildren Sydney and Jamison and in St. Augustine; a niece Debbie Spicer Bennett (Tommy Bennett).

Abbey Funeral Home is handling arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service held at a date and time to be announced on the funeral home website, www.abbeyfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the following: Florida Elks Children's Therapy Services or Florida Elks Youth Camp c/o Secretary Tallahassee Elks Lodge 937, 276 North Magnolia Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32301 or Big Bend Hospice. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. I will always cherish the memories I have of spending so much time at your home and how much Mrs. Nettles made sure us kids were ok. I have thought of her often over the years.

Another classmate has graduated from this life to the after life. This is the second one in just a few days. I remember Barbara, her sense of humor, and her athletic abilities and sportsmanship. I often wished I could be one of the cheerleaders or athletes like she was but i was born with other talents and abilities. There is an empty space in my high school heart now and my deepest sympathies go out to her family and closest friends. May she rest in peace and may her loved ones find comfort during their time of loss.
