James O'Brien was a great scientist. Among his important contributions to science, I would like to mention his impact on the development of numerical ocean modelling in France. Indeed, he organized two summer schools dedicated to this topic, one in Paris, the other in Banyuls in the eighties.
Jim was a good friend of mine and I appreciated his enthusiasm, his warmth and the generosity with which he shared his knowledge with his colleagues and students.
Whenever he came to Paris, it was a pleasure for me I and my wife to meet him and have dinner at one of those places he enjoyed so much.
I am sure everyone who met Jim will not forget him.
Dr Michel CREPON, University Paris 6.

Dearest family,
Enjoyed my times recently with Jim at Premier Gym and earlier on as his broker at Merrill Lynch. He was so spirited and strong willed and I always enjoyed his keen sense of humor. I know you and the rest of the Tallahassee community will miss him dearly. Sincerest condolences, Marshall Cassedy.

My deepest sympathies for the family of Dr. O'Brien. I only got to met him once but I know he was a very good mentor and friend to my daughter, Melissa Griffin. I know he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends..
