I was saddened to hear of Gregg's death. I will miss seeing him at FPRA or Mickee Faust and receiving his Christmas letters keeping me posted on the children and grandchildren. He had an impact on my days at FSU and in my professional career. My condolences to his family on this great loss.

I just heard that dear Dr. Phifer had passed on and although I know that he is re-united with his loving wife, I am so saddened. He had a most profound influence on me. He was on my dissertation committee and was always supportive and helpful. He was a gentleman and scholar and terrific person. I could only hope that I could be half as prolific as he was in his life. My sympathy to his beautiful daughters. He talked about them all of the time. They must have adored their dad. I am very blessed to have had him in my life and I shall miss his Christmas letters so much.

My sister, Beth, informed me today of Gregg's death and I wanted to write just to reiterate how important our family relationship with the Phifers was when I was growing up. Well I remember the "Mar-Lin-Do" tearoom and the fact that the ages of us Carey girls corresponded to Margie, Linda and Dorrie's ages and also what great friends our parents were, particularly my mom and Betty. I even have memories of Gregg's parents at the house on Marion Drive when they were still alive.
I'd seen Gregg at a couple of public relations functions in the past 10 or so years but not recently. All my love and condolences to you three "girls" and I know your dad knew how blessed he was to have such a wonderful family.
Love,
Sarah Carey

There are those few people who touch your life and you never forget them, ever. Dr. Phifer was one of those people. I worked in his office there on campus way back in the early 1970s. As the other guest said, he did have infectious good cheer. And even though I was not a part of his life except for that short time working in his department, he was always in my family's "fireside stories". Of meeting and knowing him. We send our sympathy.

My wife and I met Gregg when I was a first year faculty member at FSU in 1981. At the time, we attended church at the Wesley Foundation and I vividly recall a guest sermon that Gregg preached. I always enjoyed seeing him on campus or around town and last spoke to him sometime this past year at the dentist office. I always enjoyed his enthusiasm and infectious good cheer.
