I'm sorry to learn of the passing of Dr. Bartlett. He was my advisor and favorite professor during my Jr. & Sr. years at FSU (67-69). He was a great man. I was looking for some of his books and searched for him on the internet, which led me to this page.

Thousands of those who wanted to explore Yellowstone's history owe a never-ending debt of gratitude to Dick for the most well-written history of the Park ever published. His two books have stood the test of time, and are still "must reads" today. Peace, Dick, and thanks for your scholarship.

Truly a southern gentleman. Our paths crossed as Richard and I worked out at the gym. He was young at heart. A very kind man. I am fortunate to have known such a fine person. He was always so proud of his family.

Dick was one of the nicest persons you could ever hope to meet, let alone work alongside. He didn't have a mean bone in his body, and was especially helpful to new faculty starting their academic careers. Rest in Peace, Dick...

Dr. Bartlett was one of my professors at FSU my first two years in school. His history class was one of the toughest classes I had. He expected his students to know, and he tested us on more than just dates. One had to know "Which of the following was not occurring during a said period".
You REALLY had to have a comprehensive knowledge of the historical period covered by the class. It had been over 50 years since I was one of his students but I remember him well. Excellent professor.
My sympathy goes to his entire family. Dr. Bartlett exemplified excellence of which you should be very proud as I am sure you are.
Sincerely,
