Bee Wood Obituary

Bee Wood drank her final martini on November 14. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the following day. This 90-year-old red-haired spitfire was one of a kind.
She was born Rose Powell Williamson in Abbeville, SC in 1920 to parents Rose Powell and Clarence E. Williamson. Her family moved to Miami in 1926. Her mother was a school principal for 25 years; her father an insurance man. She graduated from Miami High and attended Florida State College for Women. She met and dated a Jacksonville boy who was a journalism student at University of Florida. His name was Guy Wood, and they married on June 15, 1941.
Within a year, Guy was commissioned into the Navy, in which he served until after the close of WWII. Guy's military service did not prevent the couple from producing two boys, Darry and Wayne. The family moved to Belle Glade, where Guy switched careers from journalism to being a produce broker. Within a few years Bee gave birth to a daughter, Rosanne.
In Belle Glade, Bee was active in many social causes, including the Woman's Club, Scouting, and the Heart Association, of which she was the local chairman for many years. She also adopted a life-long affection for the games of golf and bridge. After raising a family and spending many happy years in Belle Glade, Bee and Guy moved to Wellington, Florida in 1982. Guy died in 1993, and Bee moved to Tallahassee in 2005 to be closer to her daughter and family.

Bee was outgoing, outspoken, and an outstanding mother. She found a great sense of joy in life, and she had a great sense of humor that gave joy to the lives of others. She had a zest for living that matched her red hair. In addition to her three children, she enjoyed her six grandchildren (Lynette, Grady, Melissa Rose, Brook, Sarah, and Powell) and three great-grandchildren (Savannah, Sylvia Rose, and Mollie), all of whom called her "Mama Bee." At the end of her days she enjoyed the loving care of special friends, Sheryl and Bert Boldt.
A private family service will be held in Buck Creek, North Carolina on Thanksgiving Day. Friends are encouraged to make a donation in her memory to "Lee's Place," a grief and loss counseling center, 216 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32303.

I am rapidly nearing Bee's age and I sincerely wished I had met her and had played 19 holes with her. Your obit of her was the best I have EVER read and I have read many but never one that eulogized any one as well. She surely was deeply and truly loved by all.

Dear Wood Family,
Word of your Mama Bee's opening obituary line reached me in Macon, Georgia, so I had to read the whole thing. What a fantastic tribute. I just had to write to say God bless her, and God bless you all for memorializing her in such high style! I grew up on the gin/vermouth soaked olives from my Mamaw's martinis (she was a flapper in her day and would be 108), and I wish we could have submitted our own words for her obituary like you can now. Thank God above for fabulous women who enrich all of our lives! My sympathy for the loss of such one as Bee.
