Danny was a lover by all who knew him and a friend to all. He always tried to help others and was always concerned about the people around him and those at a distance. His joy radiated into all he met and his love for life lifted me to appreciate mine. Danny will be greatly missed and our responsibility now is to continue his service opportunities to make others smile everywhere we go. No excuses, you must always do your best and smile while you are doing it. Love, Dawn Dugger Long

Danny was a beautiful person. I met him in a writing class in San Francisco in 1995 and we stayed friends ever since. He was perhaps the most nakedly honest person I have ever known. A true man of his word. He was also the greatest teller of stories. I would listen for hours to Danny telling all the strange, wonderful adventures of his life. I will miss his friendship greatly. Danny was one of a kind.

No pretenses about Danny. From his silver shoes to his sideburns, he was a very special guy. I remember vividly some of his great stories; about jumping off high places, the fat lighter incident, apartment living in NYC as a youngster. I can hear him now with his soft spoken, well articulated, always interesting delivery of another tale. Condolences to Damien, Rowan, Chance and Shay. Danny will be missed.

I met Danny a few times, but he was usually focused on his grandchildren when I happened to be around. I enjoyed knowing him most, vicariously through the Pentons. The many stories I heard made me wish that I too had a "Danny" to come to Sunday night dinner or to co-grandparent with.
To all who loved him: I know the absence will be huge, but I hope that time will help you to focus on the treasures that he left with you. You are most fortunate to have had such a man in your lives.
Sincerely,

Several years ago, Danny was part of a small group here in Tallahassee who began to learn Argentine tango. Like the rest of us, he was challenged by this dance that is both beautiful while offering endless life lessons. Danny embraced tango with joy and quiet determination. I remember his smile and gentle laugh. We miss you, Danny. Zannah

I've known Danny since I was a teenager. I remember many insightful and entertaining conversations with him over the years. He valued life experiences over material things, and always marched to the beat of his own drummer, which I admired very much. He was curious, full of energy, and creative. He impacted many lives and will be much missed.

I met Danny when Damien was enrolled at Grassroots Free School. He was a remarkable person. Friendly, outgoing, cheerful, politically astute, energetic, and almost always smiling, enjoying being in the moment. Sincerest condolences to Damien, Danny's grandchildren and all who loved him. In our chance encounters over the decades, it was always a calm and happy meeting.

Danny was a wonderful story teller. Included in his tales were the stories of his life. True- in part- embellished- probably- entertaining- absolutely!
He was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed!
