Elaine Williams Smith, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
Born in Graceville, Florida, on November 23, 1931, she was the daughter of Douglas and Floy Williams.
Elaine graduated from Huntingdon College and earned a Masters Degree from Florida State University. She served as a teacher and reading specialist in Leon County for twenty years.
Guided by her faith, Elaine's life's work was her family.
Her many, many friends, each one special to her, will remember her joy in life and generosity of spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Alfred Miller Mikell, and her husband Julian Vereen Smith.
She is survived by her brother Douglas Williams, Jr. and her children Alfred Miller Mikell, Jr., (Chip) and wife Carolyn, Melanie Floy Busby, Douglas Williams Smith and wife Jill, Julian Vereen Smith, Jr., Fincher Williams Smith and wife Della, Donna Norton White, and Lina Smith Knox and husband Dean.
She is also survived by her many grandchildren: Bayer Vereen White and wife Robyn, Kate Knox Masters and husband Brent, Sara Knox Merrill and husband Jeff, Caroline Gifford Hudson and husband Dewey, Leslie Patricia Smith, Julian Vereen Smith, III, Andrew Douglas Smith, Anna Grace Busby, Julianna Winston Smith, Wilson Dean Smith, Sarah Elaine Busby, Whitney Roberts and Caylan Roberts.
She was loved as "Great" by her great-grandchildren, Knox, Drew, and Bryce Masters; Smith and Harrison Merrill; and Sarah Jean and Nathan White.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 until 6 p.m. at 1480 Sycamore St. The service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013 at Killearn United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Killearn United Methodist Church, Elaine Smith Fund.
