Eleanor "Barbara" Carmichael

Eleanor "Barbara" Carmichael of Tallahassee, Florida passed away at Westminster Oaks Retirement Community on Sunday, February 9, 2014 . She was 86 years old. Barbara was born in Providence Rhode Island and spent her childhood in Augusta Springs, Virginia.

After graduation from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, she moved to Perry, Florida where she taught Music, Kindergarten, Second Grade and Piano Lessons. She served as District Chairman of Music and received the reward of Outstanding Teacher of America in 1976. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church Perry, Florida serving as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director and also played the Organ and Piano.
She was also active in Rainbow Girls, Girl Scouts and the Red Cross. She was a 50 year member of The Order of the Easter Star having served as Past Worthy Matron.
Moving to Tallahassee, Florida after retirement, Barbara became a substitute teacher and volunteer at Chairs Elementary School where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.

After her husband Price retired, they moved on to Panama City Beach, Florida. While Price became a successful daily pier fisherman, Barbara continued her life of volunteering and giving of herself.
At St. Thomas by the Sea Episcopal Church, she served on the Vestry, member of The Daughters of the King and Prayer Chain Coordinator. She was active locally as a public school volunteer, Panama City Beach Care Services and Secretary/Treasurer of her condo owners association.
Barbara returned to Tallahassee and immersed herself in her family and continued to share her special smile and laugh, positive attitude, best listener and hugger ever, gentle advisor, fun of games, crafts and teasing and her love of teaching and giving.
Barbara loved others so easily and in return was also so easily loved by everyone that met her.
She is survived by Price Carmichael, her admiring husband of 60 years whom told her on their second date he would not be surprised if they got married and who also sang her into heaven; Daughters Becky Stephens of Greenville, FL Vicky Murphy (Terry) and Sarah(Jacky)Winters of Perry, FL and Ann Buckhalter (Steve) of Tallahassee, FL And six much loved grandchildren; Tori Carmichael-Wiles, Kristin Winters, Joshua (Jenny) Winters, Georgia Buckhalter, Matthew Buckhalter, Jim Stephens and 3 much loved great grandchildren; Courtney and Conner Dyer and Aaden Winters.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Oaks Health Center, Tallahassee, FL on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 1:30 pm.
