Harry H. "Chip" Mitchell, Jr.
Harry H. "Chip" Mitchell Jr, 65, Tallahassee, FL went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
Chip was born at Dale Mabry Hospital in Tallahassee and went to Kate Sullivan Elementary, Cobb Middle School and Leon High School.Chip was quite the adventurous type and could be found taking exciting trips such as searching for volcanoes. His college years took him to the University of Mississippi to earn his degree. After college he joined the Navy and served on the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in San Diego, CA when he wasn't at sea in Southeast Asia.Chip worked for the State of Florida in various positions after leaving the Navy. He retired from the Board of Governors, State University System and started his own business, Insight Consulting.
Chip's heart was in serving his Lord and his family, including his wife Kimberly Mitchell, his sister Suzanne Wilbanks (and husband Pat), brother Stan Mitchell (and wife Lodie) and sister Jeannie Mitchell.He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews that he loved as his own children and was so very proud of.
Visitation will be at Bevis Funeral Home Thursday, August 22 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The celebration of Chip's life will be at First Baptist Church Friday, August 23 at 10:00 am. with interment at Aenon Cemetery and reception at Woodland Hills Community Church.Bevis Funeral Home, 850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
