James Shipman Obituary

James A. Shipman

James A. Shipman, age 90, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Oak Hammock Assisted Living Facility in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in Rochelle, Georgia, to the late William Fletcher and Margaret Ann Fussell Shipman. Mr. Shipman grew up in Perry, and was a 1938 Graduate of Live Oak High School. He was in the United States Marine Corps from 1939 to 1947, and served in combat in the South Pacific. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nancy D. Shipman-Parker, his siblings; Thomas Edison Shipman, L.C. Shipman, Estelle Mason Shipman, Frank Shipman,Charles Shipman, and Janie Ruth Shipman.

Survived by his wife of 66 years, Willa M. Shipman of Gainesville, FL, (2) sons; Stephen D. Shipman and wife Sherry of Weeki Wachee, FL, Kelly E. Shipman and wife Patty of Gainesville, FL, 1 daughter; Debra M. McKinney and husband Michael of Houston, TX, a brother; Calvin Shipman of Tallahassee, FL, a sister-in-law; Ruth H. Shipman of Keystone Heights, FL, (3) grandchildren; Sarah G. Estevez, Matthew A. Shipman, and Stephen Paul Shipman, (1) great-grandchild; Inara Selene Estevez, all of Gainesville, FL.

Funeral Services will be held at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Perry, Florida on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. David Solomon, officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 AM - 11 AM. (1 Hour Prior To Service). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of James Shipman. You may sign the guestbook at: www.joepburnsfuneralhomes.com
