Katherine 'Kate' Ward Holman of Tallahassee, FL, died May 28, 2012, in Tallahassee. She was 69.
Kate was born on June 20, 1942 and was raised in Kerrville, TN and Memphis, TN. She graduated in 1960 from the Lausanne School for Girls in Memphis. She received a B.A. in Education from the University of Tennessee. While in college, she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Throughout her teaching career, she taught 1st and 2nd grades, Kindergarten and ended her career as a Special Education Teacher.She taught in many cities including: Leonardtown, Maryland; Millington, TN; Cocoa Beach, FL; Tampa, FL and Cairo, Ga.
After the end of her teaching career, Kate became focused on spending more time with her family. She was involved at St. John's Episcopal Church in their Altar Guild. Her love of knitting led her to begin the Knit Together ministry at St. John's.This ministry created prayer shawls for those persons who were in need of prayer.
Kate was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Edith Ward and her brother, Richard Ward. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, William F. Holman of Tallahassee. She is also survived by her daughter, Edith Holman Xanders and her husband, Ed of St. Johns, FL; her son, Andrew Holman and his wife, Amie of Chesapeake, VA; and her four grandchildren: Emily Xanders, Katie Xanders, Jackson Holman and Jane Holman.Also surviving are her sister- in law, Jane Holman Ball and her husband Charles of Knoxville, TN; her sister - in - law, Ellen Ward of Austin, TX and her nieces and nephew. She also leaves behind her knitting family at Really Knit Stuff in Tallahassee who were her love and support for many years.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 31st at 3:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.Donations can be made in Kate's name to the Rector's Discretionary Fund at St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will be at a later date at Culley's Meadowwood in Tallahassee.
