Kenneth Raphael Chaires
Kenneth Raphael Chaires, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Tallahassee.
Kenneth was born in Chaires, Florida to Thomas Green and Rose Cooksey Chaires on February 11, 1927. Kenneth received an honorable discharge from the US Navy after serving aboard ship at the end of World War II. A native of Chaires, he resided in Hialeah and Pembroke Pines Florida where he was employed as a mechanic by Standard Oil Company for 32 years.
After having many adventures in South Florida skiing at the Greater Miami Ski Club, living on a boat and skin diving, he moved back to Chaires in 1976. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and greatly loved and appreciated the outdoors. He was known to many as Candy Man for always having candy in his pocket.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Orus Chaires, Earl Chaires, and sister, Eleanor Chaires Shuford. He is survived by two daughters, Jean Ellen Hodge (Jeff) and Janice Ann Brown (Jeff); three granddaughters, Amanda Bradley, Billie Jean Bradley and Victoria Brown; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a cherished father, friend and mentor who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to
in his name would be an honor. A private family gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
