Martha Sue Menendez Jones

Martha Sue Menendez Jones, 75, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, April 18 after a four-decade-long battle with breast cancer.

Born April 25, 1941 in Tallahassee, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Marco Menendez, Sr. and Helen Johnson Menendez. She was predeceased by her husband, The Reverend Joseph John Jones, Jr.

Martha was a graduate of Leon High School and Florida State University (Go Noles). She taught elementary school in Tallahassee and Arlington, Virginia and later became the Director of St. Thomas Episcopal Church Preschool in Chesapeake. She served as Director of Christian Formation and Pastoral Care for the last 26 years of her career at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Virginia.

She is survived by her daughter Martha Randolph Jones Wyatt and her husband Rick of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Margaret Randolph Wyatt and James Fenton Wyatt; three siblings, Ernest (Buck) Marco Menendez, Jr. (Kay) of Tallahassee, Richard Ellis Menendez (Judy) of Tallahassee, and Mary Menendez Gray (Philip) of Tampa, Fla., as well as three nephews and five nieces.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Norfolk with The Reverend Scott Hennessy officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Endowment (201 St. Paul's Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23510) or The Williams School Capital Campaign (419 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, VA 23507).
