Valerie Sipe Adams Valerie Sipe Adams, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at the Parry Center, Westminster Oaks. Mrs. Adams was a native of Vancouver, British Columbia. She spent her youth in North Carolina, where she demonstrated a lifelong love of learning by being named valedictorian of her high-school class. Before moving to Tallahassee in 1997, she lived in Jackson, Miss., for 45 years following 12 years in Richmond, Va., as she moved with her husband's career.Mrs. Adams was a licensed pilot in the 1930s, a bookkeeper, homemaker, teacher and self-taught accountant. She worked at St. Andrews Academy as a physical-education instructor and later for the accounting firm of Grifford Alford, CPA, in Jackson. She was a 25-year member and former president of the Jackson Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.Mrs. Adams was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson. She volunteered her services to many charitable organizations and individuals over the years. Survivors include her four children, Ann Adams Buckley (and husband Russ) of Estes Park, Colo., Jane Adams Nangle (and husband John F.) of Savannah, E. John Adams Jr. (and wife Rebecca Jackson Adams) of Tallahassee and Lynn Adams Long (and husband William G. Long Jr.) of Madeira Beach; nine grandchildren, Lisa Buckley Mohan, Karen Buckley Irwin, Suzanne Buckley Klein, Marthajane Caldwell, James E. Caldwell Jr., Patricia Adams Hogan, Amy Adams Cooper, Bill Long and Bobby Long; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Gilliam of Spring City, Tenn.; a brother, Albert Sipe of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and a host of in-laws and other close relatives.She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband of 59 years, Emil J. Adams.
