Nancy Ausley Hannon

Nancy Ausley Hannon of Tallahassee, Florida, died peacefully on October 29, 2011, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Joseph Ross Hannon; her children, Russ Hannon and wife Sara, Saxon Hannon and wife Sherry; her grandchildren Joseph, Brandon, and Parker Hannon; her sister Anne Lee Heaton and husband Carlos, her brother DuBose Ausley and wife Sallie; her sister-in-law Charlene Hannon Floyd and husband Ed; her brother-in-law Mike Hannon and wife Julie, and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy, from a pioneering Tallahassee family, was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Loranne Ausley.

Nancy was born in Tallahassee on May 27, 1942, and was a life-long resident of this city. She graduated from Leon High School and attended the University of Georgia and Florida State University. She and Joe were active Maclay parents as their children grew up. They were fortunate to have their children's families living in the Tallahassee area, and they continued their support of and interest in their grandchildren's activities. Grandsons Joe, Brandon and Parker were the special lights of her life, whose company and activities gave her unending joy.

Her legion of family and friends was the centerpiece of Nancy's life. She was a lover of the outdoors and always delighted in sharing her town and beach gardens with them. She willingly lent her artistic talents with flowers, another source of enjoyment for her. She and her sister Anne enjoyed their adventures and travels together in their greeting card and floral businesses. Nancy and Joe had lots of enjoyment RVing around the country. But she, Joe and the boys had an enduring love of St. Teresa, and particularly had fun entertaining family and friends there. She was a longtime member of Faith Presbyterian Church and St. Teresa Community Church. Nancy always enjoyed her participation in the Junior League of Tallahassee, the Cotillion Club of Tallahassee, and the Oleander Garden Club, and the friends she made there.

Nancy was an inspiration to generations of family and friends in her generosity of spirit, boundless energy, and positive outlook on life. She overcame many serious challenges to her health over the course of her 69 years, only relinquishing her strong hold on life after a long and valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. Through it all, Nancy truly lived each day to its fullest.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 3:30 PM, EDT, Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 North Meridian Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Church's Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church or Covenant Hospice, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
