Charles E. Locke
The Guest Book is expired.
Charles Edward Locke, 79, went to be with our Lord on March 5, 2013. Born September 10th, 1933, into a family of 13 brothers and sisters in Washington County, Florida (near Chipley), Charles spent most of his adult life in Tallahassee with periods in California, Panama City and Woodville.
Charles left school after the 7th grade to work with his family in the logging business. There he met and fell in love with the mill owner's daughter, Louise M. Dingler, his bride of nearly 63 years. During his life he had many successful jobs from tree topper to saw cutting to working as a sheet-metal helper for an air conditioning company.Having an opportunity to apply his talents and strong work ethic, Charles enjoyed the air conditioning trade and applied countless hours to better his knowledge and skills in the industry.
In 1967, after several years working for local Tallahassee air conditioning firms, Charles and his wife, opened Charles Locke Heating and Air Conditioning, later changing the firm name to Locke's, Inc. Like most things he dedicated himself and his energy to be the best in the business by actively becoming involved in community affairs, statewide associations, etc. These endeavors allowed him to receive recognition and appointments from governors, professional associations and national awards from industry manufacturers.
Charles served as past president of the Tallahassee 100 Club, member of the Tallahassee Builders Association, founding member and past president of the local Tallahassee Big Bend Air Conditioning Contractor's Association, and countless other organizations.
His love for his wife was only surpassed by his love for God. Charles dedicated himself to our Lord at an early age and worked tirelessly in God's ministries.Later in life he and Louise turned the family business over to their children while they served the Lord through Campers on Missions, building churches and ministering to others in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, etc.
Missing family and friends, they returned to Tallahassee, again becoming active in the family business. With a failed national economy, Charles and Louise sold the business, after 44 years, hoping to spend the remaining time active in their church, at Fellowship Baptist, on North Monroe Street.
Charles is survived by his wife Louise Locke, oldest son Edward Locke (wife Robin), son Anthony Locke (wife Glenda), youngest daughter, Juanita Jacobs (husband Merrill). Charles is preceded in death by his middle daughter, Janet Packett whom passed away June 2011.
He is blessed with 7 grandchildren: Kenneth, Heather, Cortny, Nichole, Melissa, Savannah and McKenna.Charles has 5 great-grandchildren: Austin, Emily, Jared, Brayden and Lucas. He is survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Charles is also survived by his loving companion, a small Chihuahua dog he lovingly called "Honey-Girl".
Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday at Fellowship Baptist Church. Interment will follow in MeadowWood Memorial Park. Family will receive friend for 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday in Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road.
Charles' wish was that memorial contributions be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund to extend God's work.
