Leroy Arnold, Sr.
Elder Leroy Arnold, Sr., 91, a pastor emeritus passed Wed. Feb. 19 in Tallahassee.
Funeral services will be 11AM Sat. Mar. 1 at Watson Temple Institutional C.O.G.I.C., with burial in Clifford Hill Cemetery, both in Tallahassee. There will be a WAKE from 7-9PM Fri. Mar. 28 at First Mission Christ Temple C.O.G.I.C., 419 West Carolina Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32301. A service was held from 6-9PM Wed. Feb. 26 at Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C.
in Windsor, Connecticut. Elder Arnold was born April 22, 1922 in Palatka, Fl. to the late Perman and Carrie Arnold. He was a longtime resident of Hartford, Connecticut. He retired and relocated to Midway, Florida. He was self-employed in various businesses; he was the first black to own and operate an auto repair shop in Hartford (Hartford Auto Body Repair Shop), which is the current location of Clark Street School in Hartford, Connecticut.
He also owned and operated Arnold Superette Store, Leon's Auto Body Shop, and Arnold's Variety Store. Elder Arnold pastored Antioch Church of God In Christ in Norwich, Connecticut. By faith, Elder and mother Arnold founded First Mission Christ Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Tallahassee, Florida. Elder Arnold was a loving husband, father, grandfather,great grand-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and pastor emeritus who always enjoyed the company of his children and church family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years: Merther Lee Arnold; children: Leroy Arnold, Jr.(Cheryl), Russell Arnold, Sr.(Brenda), Meta Arnold Francis( Willie), Grace Davis (Arnold), Stephen Arnold, Str. (Mabel), Juanita Arnold-Bingham, Clinton Arnold, Sr. (Linda), Caroline Arnold Smith (Kenneth); brother-in-law: Issac Smith; sisters-in-law: Katie Penny, Linda Smith; sister: Sadie Mae Arnold Rackley; step brother: Philip Moses Arnold; (36) grands, (71) great grands, (3) great great grands; & a host of other relatives & friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: GUssie Arnold Hill, Annie Mae Arnold Reid, Vermell Arnold Thomas, and James, Freddie, Perman, Ernest, and Peter Arnold. Professional services are under the direction of...RICHARDSON'S TALLAHASSEE CHAPEL (850)576-4144.
