William (Bill) John Bigler Jr.

William (Bill) John Bigler Jr.,75, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. A native of Atlantic City, N.J., he grew up in the suburb of Pleasantville. Bill later earned his BS and MS at the University of Arizona and a Phd at the University of Georgia. He worked for the Florida State Health Department for 35 years in a variety of roles as a wildlife biologist, research director, deputy and senior epidemiologist, TB director, and pioneered the Venezuelan Encephalomyelitis and the HIV programs for the state.

Bill loved the outdoors enjoying archery shoots with local clubs, fishing in the Gulf, archaeology, wildlife art, and hunting. He was well traveled and loved adventures. He was also a member of OLLI at FSU, Phi Kappa Theta, an envoy for Beta Sigma Phi, Andrew Jackson's staff for Springtime Tallahassee, and 20th Century Krewe.

He was an extremely creative craftsman and artist, published author, and known for his award winning parade floats.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanette Bigler of 54 years; daughter, Sheryl Cook (Roger); son, Kurt Bigler (Laurie Terry); brother, Robert Bigler (Carol Bonthuis); four grandchildren, Tara Richardson (Tom), Breanna Bigler(fiancee Dave Payne), Alexis Cook, Rachel Cook; and two great-grandchildren, Tommy Richardson and Peter Richardson.

A casual Celebration of Life on June 7th will be held at the Dogwood House, 2552 Capital Cir., NE, in Tallahassee from 10:00 am to 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Wildlife Assn, P.O. Box 38160, Tallahassee, FL 32315. PayPal accepted.
