John M. O'Brien

John M. O'Brien, 68 of Tallahassee, died June 20, 2014. John was born September 13, 1945 in Strasburg, PA to Michael and Dorothy (Billger) O'Brien and moved to Tallahassee from Daytona Beach, FL. John is a graduate of FSU with a B.S. Degree in Law Enforcement. He continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University where he received his Masters Degree in Criminology. John used his education to serve his community having worked with the FSU Police Dept. He then went on to for the Leon County Sheriff's Office and finally retired in 1999 as Chief of Law Enforcement with the Florida State Department of Agriculture. John was fiercely proud of his Irish Heritage that he shared with his daughter, Jennifer. John was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, Daniel and Matt. He especially enjoyed time spent watching his granddaughter, Carmen play the piano. John was united in marriage in 1992 to his wife, Crystal who resides in Tallahassee. He is also survived by his son, Daniel O'Brien of Tallahassee; his daughter, Jennifer Principe of Orlando; his step-sons, Kerry (Susanna) Boguszewski of Seattle, WA and Matthew (Tina) Odom of Monticello, FL and his eleven grandchildren, Brianna, Maya, Zachary, Mary Catherine, Carmen, Logan, Kaitlin, Liam, Ivka, Anica and Nikola. Friends will be received Friday from 12 noon - 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated that day at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment will take place in Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park that day at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Big Bend Hospice or to the .
