Junella Silvey Obituary
Junella Hardison Silvey of Tallahassee, FL passed away on Friday, November 20th.
She was born in Nashville, TN and lived in California, Alligator Point, and Gainesville before her parents moved to Tallahassee where she graduated from Leon High School in 1960. Receiving her Bachelor's and Masters from Florida State University in Health Education, she began her teaching career in public schools in Kissimmee and Tallahassee, she started teaching part time at Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College as she raised her two children. As a professor at Tallahassee Community College for about 30 years, she made numerous lifetime friends and was a loved instructor.
Always active and on the go, she was President of the Florida Jaycee Women in the early 80s. From the 90s through her passing, she was active in dance and a vocal supporter of animals including working with the Leon County Humane Society as a volunteer and Board Member. A confident, intelligent, fun, feisty, and articulate professional woman with a great sense of humor and a fighting spirit who loved to travel, dance, and spend time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dick Preston Hardison.
She is survived by her mother, Roberta Hardison of Tallahassee; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer J Burton, Attorney, and George F Burton III of Navarre, FL; her son and his fiancé, James Preston Silvey and Vilma Santos of Navarre, FL; her brother and his wife, Richard A. Hardison, D.D.S., and Nancy Snurkowski Hardison of Tallahassee; and her nephew and niece, Miles Hardison and Melissa Hardison of Tallahassee.
A viewing will be held at Culley's Funeral Home on Riggins Road in Tallahassee on Saturday, Nov 28, from 6 - 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Junella's name to the Leon County Humane Society in honor of her love for animals.

I worked under Junella as an Adjunct Instructor at TCC for about 5 years. Her training, mentoring and support helped me maintain a 9 year tenure there in Health Ed. She was a tenacious and caring lady. Rest well Junella.

I had the pleasure of working under Junella as an Adjunct Instructor of Health Ed. at TCC for 5 years. She was a caring but strong mentor who taught me volumes about excelling as an instructor at TCC. Her motivation and constructive critiques were paramount in my successful 9 years as an instructor there. Rest in peace dear lady.

Junella was my instructor at TCC, when I took "Positive Living"! I had the pleasure of working with her, as an instructor for years. She had the biggest heart and such a great sense of humor! Rest in Peace, sweet friend.

Junella and I visited as classmates at Leon High but I really grew to know her as a sister in the business sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She is remembered as a compassionate, dear friend who we in later years always enjoyed our chats in passing, mainly at the grocery store. May you cherish the memories God allows us to enjoy. Love to each.

Junella was a classmate in our Leon High School Class of 1960. We remember her as sweet, smart, kind, thoughtful and a cherished friend of many of us. She will be greatly missed.

Junella will always be with me in my heart. She was a wonderful friend to me for 25 years and I will miss her dearly. She was intelligent and articulate. She had a great sense of humor and a fighting spirit. I'm so grateful I had her as a friend.
