Ernestine Blevins Obituary

Ernestine Mann Blevins Ernestine Mann Blevins died in her sleep in Tallahassee, Florida, on Monday, July 26, 2010. Funeral services will be at 3 pm CDT on today July 29th, 2010, at the Rideout Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama, preceded by a viewing at 2 pm. Ernestine was born on March 18, 1919, in Blount County, Alabama, to Elian Mann and Senia Vinson Mann. She spent most of her adult life in the Birmingham, Alabama area, where she raised her son, Brent Chumbler, and enjoyed living in close proximity to her two brothers, her six sisters, and their families. Following the death of her husband, Jim Blevins, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to be close to Brent and his family. While moving away from her siblings was difficult, she found many new friends at Georgia Bell and spent hours sitting in the lobby chatting and laughing. Her family is extremely appreciative of the staff at Georgia Bell, who helped make her feel welcome and at home. In recent months, Ernestine's health declined, and she eventually moved to the nursing facility at Westminster Oaks where the staff once again made her feel welcome and treated her with great kindness. Brent and the rest of the family thanks each of them for the care they gave Ernestine in her final days. Ernestine was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Tarrant for many years and, when she moved to Tallahassee, joined Brent's family as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she regularly attended the Wesley Fellowship Sunday school class. She is survived by her son, Brent (Marti); her brother, James Mann; her sisters, Mary (Gene) Jones and Fannie Jones; granddaughters Shelly Chumbler, Haley Chumbler and Becky Hall; grandsons Will Hall and Dan Hall; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her parents; her brother Jess; and her sisters, Ida, Ada, Dixie, and Norma.

I enjoyed knowing and meeting Ernestine as a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class. She always sat on the back row and would smile and wave so warmly, you couldn't help but like her. She always had a kind word to say and seemed to enjoy the class very much. I know we enjoyed her very much.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!

My Mother Lelia Morgan enjoyed many fine days with your Mother sitting outside or in the lobby at Georgia Belle. I will never forget your Mother and neither will my Mom. She was a fine fine lady.

What a lovely lady your mother was, Brent, and how much she added to Trinity since her move to Tallahassee! We know that no matter how old or sick a parent is, it is still hard to lose your mother. Know that you and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. Much love, Nancy and Jimmie
