Barbara Jo (Winstanley) Lucas , 57, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at her home in Tallahassee, surrounded by her family.
Born in Marietta, Georgia, Barbara was the daughter of Edith Booth Winstanley and USAF Captain Donald Winstanley. She moved often as part of a military life, before settling down in Tallahassee in 1959. Barbara graduated from Leon High School in 1971, where she met her future husband, Paul Thomas Lucas. Barbara and Paul were married in 1972, celebrating 38 years of marriage this past December.
Their life was blessed with one daughter, Jessica Laurel (Lucas) Sculley. Barbara worked many years for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital before her retirement. A gifted and skilled seamstress who never met a craft she could not conquer, Barbara always had a number of projects in the works, each more stunning than the last.
She was active in her neighborhood association; a neighborhood where she helped redesign and decorate the home her father and grandfather built in 1948 and where she raised her family for the last 30 years. Barbara had a wit and humor that could light up any room and it's doubtful she ever met anyone she did not touch in some way. Survivors include her husband, Paul Lucas, daughter, Jessica Sculley (David), mother, Edith Booth Winstanley, three sisters, Donna Winstanley Ball, Catherine Ann Winstanley (Art Cunkle) and Pat Winstanley Faulkner (Butch), several nieces, a nephew, a grand-nephew, and her beloved Papillon, Sir Snickerdoodles of Glendale, but better known as Snickers.
Vistitation will be held at Culley's Funeral Home on Riggins Road on Friday from 5-7, with funeral services at 10a.m. Saturday, January 22. A reception will follow at 12 at the family's home.
