Ray Bailey Munroe, Jr.

Ray Bailey Munroe, Jr. was born July 25, 1958 and died March 11, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Suber Munroe and daughter Laura Michelle Munroe. He is also survived by his parents, Ray and Peggy Arnow Munroe, brothers Mark Munroe (wife Teresa), Mike Munroe (wife Ellen), and sister, Meghan Lisson (husband Robert), as well as nieces & nephews. His surviving in-laws are father and mother in-law Calvin and Barbara Suber, brother and sister in-law Bruce Duncan and Tonya Suber-Duncan, brother and sister in-law Kenny and Tracy Holcomb. His grandparents (all deceased) were Bob and Nell Arnow and Mark and Ruth Munroe.

Ray graduated from Leon High School in 1976. He received his BS in Physics from Florida State University in 1979. After that, he attended the University of Texas in Austin. When he was in his 30s, Ray attended Florida State University and graduated summa cum laude with his Masters and PHD in physics. He wrote & published two books on physics and a number of articles in renowned science publications worldwide. Ray spent time communicating revolutionary ideas on his blog and with physicists all over the world.

In his professional life, Ray was both a teacher as well as a businessman. After Ray graduated with his PHD, he accepted a position with the University of Mobile as a physics professor. During the summers when he was not teaching, he worked at NASA for several years. He and his Uncle Bill Munroe even designed a more fuel-efficient rocket engine that they submitted to NASA. After teaching for a while, Ray moved back to Tallahassee and accepted a position as buyer and future CEO of his family's company, Mays-Munroe & the Sleep Center. He also taught astronomy at Tallahassee Community College for a few years after he moved back home. When he passed, Ray had served as a prominent board member of the Florida Key branch of both the Brand Source and Nationwide buying groups for a number of years.

Ray was a well-liked and active member of the community. He was involved in the Capital Lions Club for many years and also served as past president. He and his family were members of and regularly attended Celebration Baptist Church. What made Ray a unique and beautiful soul was that not only was he a man of science, but he was also a man of God. He knew that the universe is so perfect that it must be the creation of a supreme being. Ray Bailey Munroe, Jr. was a dear, sweet, and gentle soul who will be sorely missed by everyone especially his wife Lisa, his daughter Laura, and his parents Ray & Peggy.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday March 14 in Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Rd. Funeral service will be held 10:30 Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Celebration Baptist Church with interment to follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
