Ruth Alexander Moon

Ruth Moon died Jan. 16, 2013 after a long and fully-lived life. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1927 to Ruth Slocum Alexander and James Marshall Alexander and grew up on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee with her two beloved brothers, Jimmy and Davis.

She received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the Woman's College of University of North Carolina and continued her education later on in life at the University of Florida where she received a Master's Degree in Education.
Ruth taught elementary school for many years but it was as her role as a mother and grandmother in which she took the most pride.
She gave birth to four children who all survive her. They are Mary Moon of Tallahassee, FL (Glen), White Miller of Bellingham, WA, Chuck Alexander (Kathe) of Tallahasee, FL, and Russell Stum of Winter Haven, FL.
Ruth was an avid reader, swimmer and bridge player and was intensely interested in politics.
One of the things she was most proud of was the fact that she was able to vote for Barack Obama and see him elected to the White House twice. She was a long-time supporter and twenty-year volunteer with hospice. She loved traveling and went on as many trips to distant countries as she could.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee and spent many years singing in the choir which gave her great joy.

Besides her children, she is survived by eight grandchildren.
They are Hank Thigpen, May Thigpen, Lillian Hartmann (Jason), all of Tallahassee, Jessie Moon (Asheville, NC), Eli Miller and Leif Miller (Bellingham, WA), Kian Alexander and Riley Alexander (Tallahassee) as well as two great-grandsons, Owen and Gibson Hartmann.
A private family memorial service will be held.

Donations in Ruth's memory can be made to Bend Bend Hospice.
