Joseph Harice Hiett

Joseph Harice Hiett , 77 died July 1, 2013. He was preceded by his beloved wife, Sally Parker Hiett. Born in Benton KY, Joe was called early in his life to ministry obtaining his Divinity degree from Lambuth College, he later attend Vanderbilt and Harvard Divinity School and served as associate clergy at The First United Methodist in Memphis, Tennessee, where he met Sally, and lead pastor of the Methodist Church in Union City, Tennessee. The family moved to Tallahassee in the late 60's where Joe earned his PhD in Higher Education from Florida State. He remained in the employment of FSU until his retirement ever focused on higher education and serving several administrations. He was a long time member of St Johns Episcopal Church where he was often invited to stand in for the clergy. He was known as kind and gentle man. He is survived by his sister Alice Hiett Burnett (Jerry Burnett) of Benton KY; his children Katherine Hiett Viker and Kearns Parker Hiett, of Tallahassee; grandchildren Anthony Laberdesque, Emerson Viker, Emilia Viker, Olivia Viker, Harice Viker, Tallahassee; great grand daughter Elaina Erickson, Orlando. Services are scheduled for Monday July 8, 2013 at 3pm at St John's Episcopal Church.
