Wendy L. Smith Hansen

Wendy L. Smith Hansen, 44 of Tallahassee, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away at her home on January 13, 2014 in Tallahassee at the age of 44.

Wendy was born June 17, 1969, in Belleville, IL to James and Janet (Carr) Smith and moved to Tallahassee in 1994 after her marriage to Craig Hansen and graduation from law school. Wendy graduated from Wolf Branch School, Belleville East High School and Eastern Illinois University. She obtained her law degree from St. Louis University School of Law in 1994.

She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She lived her life fully, embracing each day with passion and joy, and was loved by all who knew her. Her strength of character was admirable and her faith in God was strong. Wendy is a member of Deer Lake United Methodist Church and past Elder of Christ Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee.
She served on the Board of Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee and was active in fund raising for the Florida Lung Association. She was a member of the Florida State Bar Association and was a Board Certified Attorney in Health Care Law. She had a successful legal and legislative practice, previously working with both the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.

Apart from her professional career, Wendy was devoted to her husband, Craig and her three sons, Jackson, James Connor and Brock Hansen, all of Tallahassee. Wendy will be remembered for her tireless support and dedication to always being present for family and friends, and encouraging everyone to live up to their highest potential.

Wendy is also survived by her parents, James and Janet Smith of Fairview Heights, IL and Ocala, FL; her sister, Allison (Mark) Bartle of Swansea, IL; her nephews, Austin and Braeden Bartle and niece, Alyssa Bartle, all of Swansea, IL; her father-in-law, Fred (Barbara) Hansen of Fountain Hills, AZ; her brother-in-law, Chris (Laura)Hansen of Tallahassee; nephew, Will Hansen and niece , Kelsey Hansen of Tallahassee.
Wendy is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Scott Hansen.
A Celebration of Life service will take place 1:00 pm Friday at the Killearn United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Interment will take place privately at Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wendy's honor to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
