David Ignatius Kelleher, Sr.
David Ignatius Kelleher, Sr., 85, of Tallahassee, died March 27, 2014 in Tallahassee, FL.
Dave was born March 30, 1928 in Springfield, MA to Maurice and Mary (Sweeney) Kelleher. He recently moved to Tallahassee from Seminole, FL. He previously lived in Dothan, AL and the Panama Canal Zone.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty Watts Kelleher, his parents Maurice and Mary (Sweeney) Kelleher, his two brothers, Maurice Kelleher and Bernard Kelleher, and grandson Andrew Arosemena.
He graduated from Balboa High School, Panama Canal Zone, in 1945 then served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.After the war he graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, IL in 1951. He then spent his working career in the Panama Canal Zone where he was an accountant for the Panama Canal Company. After retirement he moved to Dothan, AL in 1980 then moved to Seminole, FL in 1998. Recently, he moved to Tallahassee, FL to be closer to family, where he lived until his death.
Dave loved to travel and went all over the world with his wife Betty including Europe, Singapore, and his beloved Ireland.He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, FSU Seminoles, Green Bay Packers, and Bradley Braves. A lifelong member of the Elks, he loved a good party and enjoyed hanging out with friends and family at local watering holes.
He is survived by his four daughters: Patricia Arosemena of Woodville, FL, Mary (Steve) Tochterman of Peachtree City, GA, Margaret Marsalona of Tallahassee, FL, and Susan (Dave) White of Tampa, FL, his two sons: David (Lisa) Kelleher Jr. of Gainesville, FL, and Walter (Cristy) Kelleher of Quincy, FL, multiple grandchildren, a great-grandson, and sister-in-law Ann Kelleher of Hull, MA.
Special thanks to his daughter Margaret Marsalona for being his "roomy" the last several months, his daughter-in-law Cristy Kelleher for caring for him during his last days, and Big Bend Hospice.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Tallahassee, FL. Interment will be Tuesday, April 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
