Joseph Moffitt Obituary
Joseph D. "J.D." Moffitt, 89, passed away August 7, 2015 in Tallahassee.
Mr. Moffitt was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Italy. He was a Past Master of J. Edwin Larson Lodge #361, Marzuq Shrine, a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, and Leon Lodge No. 5, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. J. D. and his wife, Peggy, worked actively with Tallahassee Assembly No. 64, Order of Rainbow for Girls. He was realtor for over 35 years and a longtime member of Crawfordville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Moffitt is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy L. Moffitt; nine brothers and three sisters; and his parents, O. H. and Bertha Moffitt. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Jo Moffitt of Havana, FL, and Carol M. Davis (Frank) of Crawfordville, FL, and; three grandchildren, Kimberly Simpkins, Bill Davis and Vickie Whaley; and four great-grandchildren, Michael Gruber, Donovan Whaley, Natalie Whaley and Riley Davis.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL, 32308. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Bevis. Interment will follow at MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Project, Inc., 301 E. Tharpe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303 or I.O.O.F. Leon Lodge #5, 5500 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Elizabeth Chambers of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements, (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com.)
