James P. "Jim" JONES Sr.

JONES, James P. Sr. "Jim" died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, while in the loving hands of Suncoast Hospice after a brave and patient battle with lung cancer. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and leaves his legacy to his children, Linda Arnold, Lori Stevens, Susan Phillipp and James Jones Jr. and their spouses, who loved him as their own father, Gary Phillipp, Keith Stevens, Lucero Jones & Randy Arnold. He had his four loving children with Virginia Soler, who has continued to be a part of his life. He was known as "Pop-Pop" and "Grandpa" to his grandchildren, Timmy Murray, Daniel Arnold, Dustin Phillipp, Alessandra Jones, Adriana Jones, Samantha Stevens, Carson Phillipp, Brian Stevens and Angelina Jones; great-granddaughter, Elana Murray; other relatives & close friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his beloved, Rosie, and took comfort in knowing he would join her in Heaven. Born and raised in Sugar Tree, TN, he joined the Army and served in Korea. After serving in the Army, he was a Vice President of Barnett Bank and continued in banking for many years. After retiring from banking, he worked for several years at Tampa Bay Downs. He was proud of his hometown in Sugar Tree, TN, and frequently traveled back home. He had a passion for country music, southern food and cars. He loved to gamble on the slot machines and enjoyed going to Hard Rock weekly. Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering on Sunday, April 28th, 4-6 pm at the Blount & Curry West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa, where celebration of life & eulogy will be shared at 5 pm. Burial at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell 11:30 am, April 29th, with military honors.
