Helen Potok Loewy

LOEWY, Helen Potok Her life ended on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in her St. Petersburg home where she and her adored husband, Hans, had lived since 1984. Born in Poland, March 26, 1922, she was the daughter of Anatol Potok, a well-known director of German films in the 1920s and '30s. She attended school at the Paris Lycee until her father moved the family to Tel Aviv, Palestine in 1936. As that country became Israel she served the required military service in Israel's Air Force and was acquainted with many of that new country's earliest leaders. Her husband's employment with El Al Airline moved them to London for several years and then New York City where Helen also worked for El Al in the New York office. Their many friends and love of theatre, music and art were a reflection of their multi-national life. Retirement to St. Petersburg in 1978 led Helen to years of enthusiastic volunteerism at Bayfront Hospital's Emergency section and the Dali Museum's Curatorial dept. In all of these activities her intelligence and interest in everyone she met gave her a diverse and devoted assortment of friends around the world. The Paul Beer family of Jerusalem, Israel are her closet, most beloved survivors. Remembrances to the Salvador Dali Museum would be appreciated. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home 727-822-2059
