JOHNSTON, Bill, of Tampa, FL went to be with the Lord Jesus on Jan. 13, 2014. He was born October 3, 1927 in Charlotte, NC, to Mable Cook who preceded him in death. He is survived by 2 daughters, 3 sons, and 24 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Daddy was active in the Boy Scouts of America in the Tampa Bay area for many years, a troop leader, trail blazer district commissioner, and held a doctorate degree in Boy Scout leadership from the University of Scouting. Dad was a 32 degree Master Mason for over 60 years. He joined the Hopewell Lodge #126 in Jackson, SC at the age of 20. Dad was a member of the Plumber's and Pipe Fitters Local 96 in Charlotte, NC for 55 years. Dad was a member of the Local 123 in Tampa. Dad was a ship fitter in the U.S. Navy in World War 2 in the Pacific and in the Korean War. Dad attended Broadway Baptist Church in Tampa. He was ordained as a Deacon at Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson, SC. Daddy served the homeless for many years in the Tampa area. He will be missed. Memorial services will be held at East Chelsea Baptist Church, 7225 East Chelsea St., Tampa, FL 33610 on January 22nd at 10 am.
